Intervention is the process of providing specialist intervention and support to a person who is experiencing or demonstrating any of the early symptoms of mental and addiction illness.
A professional intervention is a safe, tested, organized and compassionate treatment to help struggling individuals (addicts to substance or drugs) get the help they need. Although staging an intervention might appear like a desperate and last measure, it is the right approach to help an individual prevent the life-threatening consequences of drugs and alcohol abuse.
In many cases, drug addicts or alcoholics are unaware of their requirements for the treatment. Sometimes they are unwilling to accept the help. This stage requires professional intervention to stop the further destruction caused by alcoholism and/or drug addiction.
In case, the patient is suffering from co-occurring psychiatric disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder, depression anxiety or bipolar disorder, the intervention process might get difficult. People from these disorders tend to grow hopeless, fearful and exhaustive towards reaching out for help. A professional intervention specialist renders expert knowledge and support so that the addicts can be brought into treatment, even if the circumstances become stressful.
Usually, addiction to substance/drug leads to the mental health disorder that has to be diagnosed along with the addiction habits. On the contrary, addicts get treatment usually either for the addictions or for their mental illness. For a truly effective treatment against addiction, both substance abuse and psychiatric illness should be coupled under the rehabilitation program for reoccurring disorders.
An intervention helps prevent the life-threatening consequences of drugs and alcohol abuse namely accidents, drowning, violent altercations, suicide, and fatal falls.
When the state reaches where people start feeling hopeless, frustrated or frightened by their beloved's behavior, there is a need to reach out for professional help as they have experience and training in the practice of intervention. Intervention treatment restores a sense of normalcy in life.
An intervention team usually consists of family members, co-workers, employers, friends who have been associated with the patient and have been negatively affected by addiction habits. Also, one or more professionals are included in the team such as a pastor, a counselor or an intervention specialist.
The work of an intervention specialist is to provide valuable advice on when, how and why to stage an intervention. They also assist in deciding who should participate in the intervention and how to hold the conversation with the addict, safely and effectively.
During the intervention process, each team member can come forward to make a statement about substance abuse. This would help to render emotional vent out for addicts. But in case the addict has been violent or abusive, it is better to select a neutral and secure location for dealing with such members.
Intervention can be applied to the individual or in the group setting such as at the rehabilitation centers or psychiatric treatment institutions. Its main aim is to improve the wellbeing of people who are either in the need of help but refusing the same or are unable to accept or initiate help.
Intervention can be psychological, physical or pharmacological. In some cases, an intervention can be in the form of confrontation or meeting amongst persons engage in addictive habits.
But a single procedure of intervention may not work for every person who needs them.

Intervention is a planned, non-threatening medication in a negative situation that can lead to a positive impact. It helps to modify behavior that encourages a person's wellbeing. Interventions can be the stage for the individual as well as at the organization level where these are organized for people who reside in the institutional settings such as rehab. Intervention program can be we organized for communities at large.
The goal of intervention is to take action with the prospect of bringing positive change in ethical behavior and thinking patterns.
Its mean main purpose is to modify or preventing self-destructive behavior. It renders an opportunity to directly approach the addiction patients by their family or friends.
In case, the behavior of the addict is self destructive or violent, there is a need for a peaceful and respectful confrontation that is planned and organized with family and friends. Including professional interventionists comes as a great respite.
The individual or the team of the specially constructed team presents the problem to the person who is behaving in a self-destructive way. Discussion related to the effects and present options for help takes place. For example, an intervention could be in a simpler form like bringing music into an institutional setting, such as a hospital. This might help reduce patients’ stress and regulate other negative emotions.
