An overdose is a response of the body when it gets exposure to a substance more than its capacity to withstand or digest it. It can be either by intention or accidental. People can get overdosed on a variety of mixes and substances. These include illegal drugs, medications on prescription, alcohols, and other substances. In most cases, overdose can be lethal if not controlled and managed in the right time. If there is a prompt medical response, an individual can be saved from the adverse effects from the treatment. These treatments are generally related to medical facility. When talking about drugs, there is a variety of ways a body shows this adverse reaction. However, respiratory failure is the leading cause of death in individuals who get overdosed on drugs. This can occur in drug treatment, but if managed in the right way, a drug rehab centre can help the individual get a detox or drug rehabilitation might work.
Depressants have a negative impact on the nervous system of the body. These depressants can include alcohol, opioids, and benzodiazepines. These drugs lower down the blood pressure that in return lowers the temperature, breathing rate and heart rate. This causes a sedative effect on the individual taking it that creates a euphoric effect. Overdosage of these drugs can get the individual into a sate of coma, respiratory failure, and even death. Detox is a solution that people often consider in this case.
Opioid overdose is a popular form of overdosage among individuals addicted to drugs. The body of the individual has specific receptors that are found in different parts of the body, mostly covering the brain and the nervous systems with the GI tract. On using the particular drug, the receptors get activated and the body gets into a state of sedation that ultimately causes euphoria. However, it is easy for the body to get overwhelmed by these opioids which blocks these receptors, rendering the body to be incapable of performing vital functions. This can cause respiratory failure in individuals getting overdosed from the drug.
Overdosage from alcohol occurs when an individual consumes alcohol more than the recommended dose. It is normally safe for men to consume around 3 to 4 glasses of wine daily and the number decreases to 1 to 2 daily for women. One serving of alcohol is considered to be safe to consume within an hour as the body is able to process it. It includes a half pint of beer, small liquor shot, or one third of a glass of red or white wine. The alcohol gets accumulated in the body that causes alcohol poisoning.
Stimulants are the drugs that accelerates the working of the central nervous system and have the opposite effect of sedatives. The examples include cocaine and meth. The stimulants increase the body temperature, breathing rate, heart rate and blood pressure of the body. The stimulant overdosage takes place when respiratory system, blood flow rate, cardiovascular system can get damaged.
You should know that in order to treat overdosage, medical treatment is compulsory. To avoid situations like overdosage, a good drug rehabilitation centre is a must for every individual undergoing substance abuse and drug addiction. Even if the individual seems fine after getting overdosed, the problem should not be ignored and must be treated on time. So, medical treatment and rehab facility becomes necessary.
